Instagram launched the Creator account, and made it available for everyone after a brief period of beta testing only in 2019, till then all the influencers worldwide were relying on business profiles for Insights analytics, running ads, etc.
Presently Instagram offers three types of account options Personal Account, Creator Account and Business Account, each one has different features and functionality and according to the user’s needs, they can switch between the three. The major differences between Creator and Business account that must be considered while creating your account will be discussed here.
While creating a creator account you find the major upgrades offered by Instagram for the users as given in the image.
In-depth Follower insights
Creator profile has more in-depth audience analytics than a business profile. Creator profile gives daily insights to the number of people who followed/ unfollowed, this detailed report can help creator understand which type of content contributed to a spike or dip in each day. On the other hand business profile only gives weekly insights and doesn’t include functionality to connect it to the content that was posted in that period of time.
Advanced Direct Messaging (DM) filters
One the major problems faced by all influencers was the overflowing direct message inbox as an influencer or creator this feature is really useful to get a filtered direct message inbox where essentially the user can rank the importance of specific messages in the inbox, like those from family or friends or from brands that you are collaborating with, similarly and you can also downgrade and just ignore the messages they’re coming that might be spams. This means they separate out unsolicited cold DMs into one folder and the rest in another. There are two categories to put the direct message in Primary or General, it’s useful for limiting the number of notifications that one gets, and to not miss the important ones.
With Instagram creator account, influencers have access to three folders Creators may move messages between folders whenever required.
- Primary: Messages that are prioritized to receive and be notified off.
- General: Messages that are not notified off (bulk spams).
- Request: Messages from people the creator doesn’t follow
Select Category and Contact info for your account
Creator account is tailor-made to meet the needs of influencers, celebrities, artists, politicians, authors, etc hence creator accounts are categorized in a different manner to standard business profiles. Normal Instagram Business profiles are sorted dependent on the business type class selected on the associated Facebook page. Conversely, Creator profiles will be classified freely of their associated Facebook page and the user can choose the profile type from a dropdown. This incorporates categories like Author, Blogger, and titles different from normal business profiles. Instagram Creator profiles can likewise decide whether to show their profile “category” data in their Instagram profile rather than it being naturally included as it is for Instagram Business profiles.
In addition to the new category options, creator accounts have the choice to turn their contact information on or off. Business profiles automatically have the distinctive CTA for Call, Text, Email, and Directions dependent on the contact info. The creator account can decide to turn this off if needed.
There are also downsides and negatives with regard to switching over to a creator’s profile. You will lose the ability to actually connect to a third-party app for scheduling and planning your Instagram posts ahead of time or using analytics tools and you will also lose the ability to auto-publish from your Instagram account as well from this third-party Creator account has no API connection for third-party tools. The Instagram API only supports business profiles for third-party.
Top recommendations for different profiles
In conclusions, if you’re a business and you want to increase exposure and optimize your brand’s awareness on Instagram and also you want to run ads to drive traffic to your website and drive more sales then the Business profile is the best option for you
If you’re in the influencer or a personal brand with lots of brands and other people get in touch with you in your direct message inbox and also you want to get access to special insights and exclusive features for creators on Instagram and if you want to also generate sales from tagging brands in your post on Instagram then the Instagram creators profile is perfect for you. The creator profile provides a clearer path for influencers to grip all that Instagram has to offer while differentiating individuals from business entities.
And lastly, if you want to use Instagram just for keeping touch with close friends and family then I suggest just keeping your profile to a personal profile on Instagram so that way you can leverage the private functions. Then you can keep the content only to yourself and your close circle of family and friends.
